Constructing one of the largest walls in the Midwest of approximately 7 tiers and 50 feet high was an exciting challenge to the Walltek Design Build, Inc. team.
Due to the height of the retaining walls and the multiple tiers, global stability was a major factor. Walltek designed the walls using the existing onsite soils for the reinforced zone. Adding to the challenge was staging major earth moving equipment needed to backfill the walls.
The final construction of the retaining walls, built and staged to perfection, are an impressive addition to Forrest Hills Elementary School’s new construction. In addition, the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC), recognized the project with a 2003 Craft Award for Best Landscape Project.
