Wal-Mart in Barboursville, West Virginia View PDF

Wal-Mart's development plans specified that the new retail development would be at the top of where a rather large mountain exists.  In order to begin construction at this site in Barboursville, West Virginia the developer needed to remove a portion of the existing mountain that was on the development property.

The developer began removing the mountain by igniting explosives into the mountain side and then removing the rock and debris to a nearby parcel of land. This process took almost one month and considering the amount of material that had to be blasted, that was quick.

Walltek Design Build, Inc. then began installing a 60-foot high retaining wall within the mountain side in order to raise the grade of the site to construct the parking lot and retail store.  Walltek completed the unusually high wall system on schedule and on budget.
