In order to properly install approximately 9,000 square feet of stadium seating for the new Ottawa Stadium in Harbor Springs, Michigan, Walltek Design Build, Inc. designed a unique solution using mechanical stabilized earth (MSE) retaining walls.

The most difficult challenge for Walltek was building the seating into the steep slope of the landscape. The slope was approximately 50 feet high on a half-to-one slope. The staging of the project was critical since the retaining wall block and bulk materials for backfill had to be brought to the area of construction using an excavator and chains.

The final hurdle to overcome was matching each row of seating into poured concrete steps throughout.

Successfully installed, the Ottawa Stadium is currently utilized by the Harbor Springs community for concerts, sporting events and recognized as a unique outdoor venue.
